When to go

Spring: Snow clears and days lengthen quickly through April and May, with the Old Town's café terraces back in use well before the sea is warm enough to swim in.
Summer: Estonia's brightest, busiest months, with light lingering past 10pm in June. Warm rather than hot, and the best time for the Baltic coast itself.
Autumn: Cooler and quieter from September, with the Old Town at its most photogenic and prices easing before winter.
Winter: The sun rises past 9am and sets by mid-afternoon in December. Tallinn is built for it: a medieval Old Town strung with a Christmas market, mulled wine and candlelit cobbled streets — a short, indoor-leaning city break rather than an outdoor one.
