Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information Capycation does and does not collect when you use the site. We have built the site to need as little personal data as possible: no ad networks, no cross-site tracking, and Google Analytics stays off unless you say yes. A cookie-free analytics tool (Ahrefs Web Analytics) does run for every visitor; section 3 describes it.

1. No account needed

Capycation does not require you to create an account or sign in, and we do not ask for your name, email address or any other contact details to browse the site. What little we do store is described below, and you can refuse the optional parts - see section 5 and section 7.

2. Cookies we set

We set a small number of first-party cookies. None of them are advertising cookies and none are shared with ad networks:

You can clear any of these at any time through your browser settings. The site keeps working without them; you will simply be asked for consent and a departure airport again.

3. Analytics

We run our own pageview analytics on our own infrastructure. It is first-party: it uses no third-party script, and no data about your visit is sent to an ad network. We use it in aggregate - which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from, which searches find us - to decide what to improve. We do not use it to identify individual visitors and we do not sell it.

Google Analytics (opt-in). In addition, if you press Accept on the analytics banner, we load Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited) to see how people use the site: pages viewed, device type, country and referring site. Until you accept, no request is sent to Google and no Google cookie is set. Accepting allows analytics storage only - not advertising storage, advertising data sharing or ad personalisation. If you press Decline, Google Analytics is not loaded (Ahrefs Web Analytics, described below, still runs). We keep your choice in your browser (local storage key capy_analytics_consent_v1) so we do not ask again, and you can change it at any time:

Ahrefs Web Analytics (cookie-free). We also use Ahrefs Web Analytics, provided by Ahrefs Pte. Ltd. (Singapore). It runs on every page for every visitor, whatever you choose on the analytics banner. It sets no cookies and uses no browser storage. For each page view it sends Ahrefs the page address, the page title, the referring page, your browser language, your screen size and pixel density. It also records the address of links you click and the address a form submits to - not what you type into the form. If the script itself hits an error, it sends the error message and technical stack trace to Ahrefs. As with any request to another server, Ahrefs receives your IP address and browser user agent. Ahrefs says it uses the IP address to work out your country and city (nothing more precise), combines it with the user agent into a daily pseudonymous visitor ID so it can count unique visitors without tracking you across days, and does not store the raw IP address; see About Ahrefs Web Analytics. We use the data in aggregate, to see which pages are read and where visitors come from. Our legal basis is our legitimate interests; you can object to it - see section 7. Ahrefs' general privacy policy says that when it transfers personal data outside the EU/EEA it uses safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (2021/914/EU); that policy does not mention Web Analytics specifically.

4. Partner content and embeds

Some pages can show partner content, such as the Stay22 accommodation map (an embedded iframe from Stay22). Partner embeds load only after you accept partner content in the consent prompt - before that, nothing is requested from the partner and no partner cookie can be set. When an embed does load, the partner processes your visit under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to read.

Your current choice, and a way to change it - this is the one place on the site that does both:

5. Outbound-click logging

When you click an outbound link to a travel partner, we log the click on our own infrastructure. We store: which partner and destination URL the link pointed to, the page you clicked from, the time, and a random click identifier. We use this to see which content is genuinely useful, to reconcile partner reporting, and to detect click flooding and other abuse. The log is not joined to a name or email address - we do not have those - and it is not shared with ad networks.

6. Third-party services

The site links out to external suppliers (flights, stays, tickets, activities). When you follow a link and land on their site, their own privacy policies apply. How those links relate to commission is set out in our affiliate disclosure.

7. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU/EEA or the UK, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time (withdrawing consent does not affect processing that happened before you withdrew it). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

Because we hold so little, most requests are simple: clearing your cookies removes everything stored in your browser, and the click log contains no identity to look you up by. If you still want to exercise any of these rights, or ask what we hold, contact us and we will respond.
