- March to May balances comfortable heat, good underwater visibility and fewer crowds than peak summer school holidays, making it popular with divers.

- June to September brings the strongest sun and very warm sea; good for Red Sea-focused trips but can feel oppressive for non-divers and families.

- September to November often offers warm water, easing crowds and lower prices, though occasional khamsin winds and dust can affect comfort.

Why go
- Year-round beach conditions and warm sea make winter sun easier than Mediterranean resorts closing for the season.
- Resorts line the shore with direct reef access, giving simpler snorkelling logistics than city-based bases like Cairo.
- Choice between self-contained enclaves such as El Gouna and quieter strips like Sahl Hasheesh or Makadi Bay.
- Boats from Hurghada reach offshore islands and reefs such as Giftun, Abu Ramada and Magawish, and Egypt's official tourism site puts Tawila Island about a 40-minute boat ride away. HEPCA, the local conservation association, grew out of divers installing mooring buoys so that boats would stop anchoring on the coral.
Worth knowing
- Resort development has expanded rapidly and can feel overrun with tourists at times compared with quieter Red Sea towns.
- Local non-resort infrastructure is patchy, so walking beyond hotel zones may feel unfinished versus more established Mediterranean cities.
- Beach and reef access is concentrated around hotels, so independent travellers have fewer public options than in European resorts.
