Distance is straight-line from Paphos with a road allowance added; the drive time is approximate and assumes ordinary conditions. Neither comes from a routing service.

Paphos International Airport has direct buses into both halves of town every day: route 612 to the Tombs of the Kings bus station in Kato Paphos, and route 613 to Karavella station in the upper town, both running from early morning until after midnight. Taxis are the alternative.

Good to know about Paphos

Why go

  • Offers both a small city and resort areas like Coral Bay, giving more variety than purely resort towns.
  • Two of the three parts of Paphos's UNESCO World Heritage listing are in Kato Paphos itself — the mosaics and ruins of ancient Nea Paphos, and the Tombs of the Kings a little to the north — while the third, the Sanctuary of Aphrodite at Kouklia, is a separate trip about 16 km out of town.
  • Better base than inland towns for mixing archaeology, coast and drives into nearby hills.
  • Paphos is really two places: Kato Paphos on the coast, with the harbour and the archaeological park beside it, and the older upper town around the municipal market and Karavella bus station. Local buses link the two, so choosing between them is about whether you want the seafront or the town on your doorstep.
  • The classic coast outings are on the town bus network: route 615 runs to Coral Bay every day, and route 631 goes from the harbour station out past the Kouklia archaeological site to Petra tou Romiou, Aphrodite's Rock.

Worth knowing

  • Smaller city than Limassol, with a more limited range of urban nightlife and shopping.
  • Some areas feel spread out; moving between Kato Paphos and Coral Bay often requires buses or taxis.
  • Peak-season traffic and coach groups can make the harbourfront busy and less tranquil.
  • No rail network; airport and regional connections depend on buses, taxis and self-drive.
