Why go

  • Offers both a historic old town and an extended seafront promenade, unlike more compact resort towns like Paphos.
  • Germasogeia tourist strip provides long, organised beaches alongside a functioning city with year-round residents.
  • Better suited to travellers who want an urban base with bars, shops and events rather than a purely resort environment.
  • Kourion, 19 km west of Limassol on the road towards Paphos, has a Greco-Roman theatre built in the 2nd century BC and extended in the 2nd century AD, since restored and used for open-air performances, mainly in summer.
  • The municipality runs a free guided walk, "A Stroll in Limassol", along the Molos seafront sculpture park, past the old port and Limassol Castle, now a museum of medieval Cyprus. It runs on Monday mornings all year except public holidays and needs booking in advance.

  • Feels more like a working city than a pure holiday resort, which may not suit those wanting a simple beach town.
  • Traffic and urban noise are part of the experience, especially near the port and main roads.
  • Long seafront means some hotels are far from the historic centre, requiring buses or taxis.
  • No train or metro; intercity buses and taxis carry most visitor transfers.
