  • Foinikoudes, the palm-lined promenade, is a 600-metre stretch beside a calm, shallow town beach, with the marina and fishing harbour at one end and the Medieval Fort at the other.
  • Agios Lazaros church, built by the Byzantine Emperor Leo VI in the 9th century and restored in the 17th, stands in its own square in the town centre, with a Byzantine Museum of icons and relics next to it.
  • Larnaca Salt Lake, south-west of town, is a Ramsar and Natura 2000 wetland where flamingos stay between November and March, with a 4 km nature trail through the area and the Hala Sultan Tekke mosque nearby.
  • Intercity buses connect Larnaca with Nicosia, Limassol and Ayia Napa, so the town works as a base for trips to other parts of the island.
  • Inland day trips include Choirokoitia, a Neolithic settlement on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1998 with reconstructed round houses, 32 km from Larnaca, and Lefkara, 43 km away, known for lace embroidery and filigree silver.

  • Choirokoitia and Lefkara are 32 km and 43 km from Larnaca, so they are day trips rather than part of a walk around town.
  • Foinikoudes is a town beach beside a bustling promenade; for a resort-based beach holiday, Ayia Napa and Protaras on the east coast are the island's main sandy-beach resorts.
  • Cyprus has no passenger railway, so longer trips rely on intercity buses, taxis or a hire car, and traffic drives on the left.
