Why go
- Offers a concentrated set of major museums and royal sites that feel more centralised than in Barcelona.
- Provides classic Spanish nightlife and bar culture in neighbourhoods like La Latina and Malasaña rather than beach promenades.
- Works well as a rail hub for inland day trips, contrasting coastal bases such as Malaga or Valencia.

Worth knowing
- Summer heat regularly makes afternoon walking demanding, especially in July and August.
- Being inland, Madrid offers no direct access to beaches or coastal walks, so seaside days require separate trips.
- Some visitors find the city's scale and busy roads less immediately relaxing than smaller Andalusian centres such as Seville.
