How these figures are worked out

Monthly averages — ERA5 reanalysis, 2022–2024, a three-year average, not a standard 30-year climate normal or a forecast. Gold months are the best weather fit: each month scores on how close its average daily high sits to about 27 °C, with heavy rainfall counting against it, and months far outside that range are not ranked at all.

Good to know about Krakow

Why go

  • Stare Miasto and Kazimierz sit within walking distance, giving concentrated history in a smaller, calmer city than Warsaw.
  • Podgórze and riverside districts like Dębniki and Ludwinów offer quieter, more local bases still close enough to reach the centre on foot.
  • The airport lies relatively close to the city compared with many European hubs, simplifying arrivals and departures.
  • Wieliczka Salt Mine needs neither a tour nor a car: the city's Kraków Travel guide notes that Kraków's tram and bus lines run beyond the city limits, Wieliczka included.

Worth knowing

  • Old Town and parts of Kazimierz can feel crowded and busy, especially in summer and on weekends.
  • Air connections are improving but still more limited than larger hubs, so flight options may be fewer and more indirect.
  • Winter cold and early darkness shorten the walkable part of the day.
  • Day trips from Kraków need booking rather than turning up: the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial issues its free entry cards only online and not at the museum itself, and Wieliczka Salt Mine sells tickets for tours in languages other than Polish or English only online in advance.
