Good to know about Budapest
Why go
- District V around the riverfront concentrates many main sights and hotels, efficient for first-time city breaks.
- Terézváros and Erzsébetváros provide strong nightlife, restaurant and ruin-bar scenes unlike more sedate nearby capitals.
- Castle District on the Buda side offers quieter, view-led stays still close to central Pest via bridges.
- Széchenyi thermal bath is reached on the M1 Millennium underground, the route the bath itself suggests, with trolleybus 72 as the alternative, so a soak slots into a Pest-based day without a taxi.
Worth knowing
- Public transport from some Buda areas back at night is less frequent, so bases there may feel less convenient for late returns.
- Ruin-bar districts can be noisy well into the night; light sleepers may prefer Buda or calmer Pest areas.
- Airport transfers take longer at busy times, so build in extra time either side of a flight.
